Former heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua has been injured in a terrifying car crash in Nigeria that left two people dead.
The shocking collision happened shortly after 11 a.m. on the busy Lagos–Ibadan Expressway in Makun when the Lexus SUV Joshua was traveling in smashed into a stationary truck.
Footage circulating online shows Joshua — shirtless, dazed, and surrounded by shattered glass — sitting inside the wrecked vehicle before being helped into an emergency vehicle. Officials later confirmed he sustained minor injuries and was taken to the hospital for treatment.
Five Men Involved — Two Tragically Killed
According to Nigerian road safety authorities, five people were inside the SUV. Joshua was reportedly seated behind the driver with another passenger, while his security escort followed in a separate vehicle.
Investigators believe the SUV was traveling above the legal speed limit and lost control during an overtaking maneuver before slamming into the parked truck. Some reports suggest a tire may have burst when the vehicle swerved.
Police Confirm the Crash
Commissioner of Ogun State Police CP Lanre Ogunlowo confirmed:
“I can confirm an accident occurred and Anthony Joshua has been taken to hospital. Unfortunately, there were two fatalities.”
First responders treated Joshua at the scene before transporting him to the hospital for further evaluation.
