CBS News may part ways with wellness expert Peter Attia after newly released Jeffrey Epstein emails show him joking and corresponding closely with the convicted sex offender.
CBS News is expected to sever ties with Peter Attia, a wellness expert and new contributor, after his name appeared frequently in recently released Jeffrey Epstein emails. The trove, part of 3 million documents, shows Attia making crude jokes, praising Epstein’s lifestyle, and offering advice, though he has denied involvement in any criminal activity.
In one 2015 email, Attia wrote: “the worst part about being your friend is that the life you lead is so outrageous, and yet I can’t tell a soul…” In a 2016 message, he joked about diet with Epstein: “P–y is, indeed, low carb. Still awaiting results on gluten, though.”
CBS reportedly views the matter as an HR issue rather than editorial, putting Attia’s position in jeopardy shortly after Editor-in-Chief Bari Weiss added him to the network’s team of 19 contributors. Attia is also known for his YouTube channel on health and longevity, with over 1 million subscribers, and 1.7 million Instagram followers.
Attia issued an apology on X, stating:
- He was not involved in any criminal activity.
- His interactions with Epstein had nothing to do with sexual abuse.
- He never visited Epstein’s island or attended his parties.
He acknowledged the emails were “embarrassing, tasteless, and indefensible” and expressed regret for the public fallout.
The controversy comes amid CBS News’ efforts to revamp its image under Weiss, whose tenure has faced criticism over internal shake-ups and program rollouts. Weiss told staff last week she intends to earn trust through transparency and clear communication.
