Court Rules FBG Duck’s Mother Can Move Forward with Lawsuit Against Lil Durk

LaSheena Weekly, mother of late rapper FBG Duck, receives court approval to continue her wrongful death lawsuit against Lil Durk, King Von, their record labels, and others connected to her son’s 2022 shooting.

LaSheena Weekly, mother of late Chicago rapper FBG Duck, announced on Tuesday (Jan. 13) that a judge has allowed her wrongful death lawsuit against rapper Lil Durk to proceed. The legal battle has been ongoing for over a year.

In an Instagram post, Weekly wrote: “A step forward. The ruling is in and my son gets his day in court. The court ruled that we can continue our lawsuit against Lil Durk and the record labels. Our fight continues.”

Background of the Lawsuit

The lawsuit, filed in October 2023, names Lil Durk, fellow rapper King Von, their respective record labels, the city of Chicago, Dolce & Gabbana, two private security firms, and the six men convicted of killing Duck outside the Dolce & Gabbana store in Chicago’s Gold Coast area.

Weekly’s suit alleges that Durk and the record labels were aware that Von “had a vendetta against FBG Duck … and consistently sought to build a brand of violence and reality rap, based on committing real acts of violence on FBG Duck and the public at large.” The complaint further claims that the defendants profited from “reality rap, violence, controversy, beefs and notoriety” to drive record sales, streams, and brand recognition.

The suit also accuses the Dolce & Gabbana store of inadequate security and criticizes the Chicago Police Department for allegedly failing to respond promptly after Duck was shot. Last July, Weekly reached an undisclosed settlement with Dolce & Gabbana.

Legal Context

The lawsuit follows the 2022 shooting of FBG Duck, in which six men from Chicago’s O-Block neighborhood were convicted of murder. Neither Lil Durk nor King Von faced criminal charges in connection with Duck’s death.

Weekly’s legal team argued that the case is not only about her son’s death but also highlights the role of music industry figures and associated entities in perpetuating violent rivalries within the rap scene.

Next Steps

With the court’s ruling, Weekly can now continue pursuing her case against Durk, King Von’s estate, record labels, and other parties. The legal process will determine whether the defendants can be held civilly liable in connection with FBG Duck’s death.
