Elon Musk Seizes Meta WhatsApp Lawsuit to Promote X Chat

Billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk took advantage of news about a privacy lawsuit against Meta Platforms to promote his own ventures on Monday.

Musk reshared a post regarding the lawsuit, which alleges that WhatsApp misled users about its privacy features. His message read: “WhatsApp is not secure. Even Signal is questionable. Use X Chat.”

According to Bloomberg, a group of plaintiffs filed the suit in San Francisco, claiming Meta lied about WhatsApp’s privacy and defrauded users. Meta has denied all allegations.

Unlike other executives, Musk has been increasingly vocal in criticizing competitors, particularly OpenAI and Meta. Over the past year, he has clashed publicly with OpenAI CEO Sam Altman over differing AI visions and even filed lawsuits against OpenAI and Apple, alleging preferential treatment for ChatGPT in the App Store.

Musk frequently contrasts his ventures’ transparency with rivals, touting his open-source approach for X and the Grok AI bot. He also recently criticized Alphabet’s AI partnership with Apple, calling it “an unreasonable concentration of power for Google.”

Behind the public statements, Musk is aggressively expanding xAI, which encompasses the X social media platform and his AI initiatives. The company recently raised $20 billion in new funding and is scaling its Arizona data center complex to support growth.

Musk’s move highlights his dual strategy: leveraging industry controversies to promote his own platforms while taking shots at Big Tech competitors.
