The FBI executed a court-authorized search warrant Wednesday at Fulton County’s elections warehouse in Georgia, seeking ballots from the 2020 presidential election—renewing scrutiny over claims of voter fraud that have been repeatedly debunked over the past five years.
Federal agents confirmed they were carrying out a law enforcement action at the facility, while Fulton County officials said the warrant specifically targeted 2020 election ballots. The Justice Department declined to clarify whether the search is connected to its December lawsuit demanding Fulton County hand over ballots and related election records.
Fulton County, which includes most of Atlanta, has remained a focal point of former President Donald Trump’s fraud allegations since 2021, when he pressured Georgia officials to overturn Joe Biden’s victory. Courts rejected dozens of related lawsuits, and no evidence of widespread fraud was found.
Although a racketeering case against Trump tied to the election was dismissed last year, disputes over the county’s mail ballots have persisted, in part because a judge ordered them preserved indefinitely.
The search follows Trump’s renewed claims last week that prosecutions tied to the 2020 election are forthcoming, though officials have not confirmed any connection between his remarks and Wednesday’s action.
