Authorities in Miami-Dade County have accused a Florida woman of targeting men at nightclubs, allegedly drugging them after accompanying them back to hotel rooms and stealing valuable property before fleeing.
Sarah Jean Tavano, 39, is facing multiple felony charges, including strong-arm robbery, organized fraud, second-degree grand theft, and burglary of an occupied dwelling. She has been in custody at the Miami-Dade County Corrections and Rehabilitation Department since Sunday.
According to an arrest affidavit, one incident occurred on Dec. 12 at Sugar nightclub in Miami. A man was sitting alone after his friends had left when a woman approached him. After interacting, the woman allegedly agreed to accompany him back to his hotel room, where he believed consensual intimacy would occur.
The pair went to the InterContinental Hotel along the Miami waterfront. The man reported that after consuming a drink with the woman, he suddenly felt ill, experiencing nausea, weakness, and dizziness before losing consciousness. He said he did not wake up until the following morning.
When he regained consciousness, the man discovered his gold Rolex Day-Date wristwatch — valued at approximately $38,000 — was missing, along with about $1,500 in cash. He later contacted police, stating that the symptoms he experienced were unusual for him and led him to believe he had been drugged.
Investigators later confirmed that the stolen watch had been pawned locally. Surveillance footage from the hotel reportedly showed the suspect, who officers said they immediately recognized as Tavano due to her connection to prior investigations.
Authorities allege Tavano followed a similar pattern in multiple cases, bringing male victims to hotel rooms under the pretense of consensual encounters, sharing drinks, and then leaving with their belongings after the victims lost consciousness.
More than a month later, on Jan. 18, nightclub security alerted police that Tavano was again at Sugar nightclub. Officers detained her, and investigators say she was found in possession of suspected cocaine, suspected prescription medication, and a bottle of alcohol containing a cloudy liquid with visible residue.
Investigators noted that mixing prescription medication into alcoholic drinks is consistent with methods used to incapacitate victims.
Tavano was arrested and booked into jail. The case remains under investigation.
