Fox News Issues Rare Warning to Republicans After Texas Special Election Upset

Fox & Friends warns Republicans after Texas special election upset, citing low GOP turnout and declining Latino support as key factors.

Even Fox News hosts, known for their support of Donald Trump and Republican causes, expressed concern after a surprising special state senate election result in Texas.

Democrat Taylor Rehmet defeated Republican Leigh Wambsganss by 14 points, taking over a seat previously held by a four-term Republican. The district had voted for Trump by 17 points in 2024 and is in a county Biden narrowly carried in 2020.

On Fox & Friends, hosts Carley Shimkus, Lawrence B. Jones, and Brian Kilmeade offered analysis while issuing a rare warning to Republican leaders. Jones highlighted a low GOP turnout and shifts among Latino voters as critical concerns.

“Percentage-wise, turnout for Republicans was only at 15 percent. So they didn’t turn up,” Jones said. He added that Latino voters, who previously leaned Republican, are moving away:
“If you look at the maps, the Hispanics who once supported Republicans, it’s not looking too good…It’s the way that you deal with the policy.”

Kilmeade noted the Texas result reflects a broader trend: Republicans have struggled to maintain strong showings in recent races, including in Virginia, New Jersey, and Tennessee. He also pointed out that Democrats are gaining a fundraising edge in key Senate races ahead of the midterms.

“Early fundraising edges given to Georgia and North Carolina, more money is going to the Democratic candidate in those tough Senate races than the Republican,” Kilmeade said.

Fox’s unusually frank assessment underscores growing concerns within the GOP about voter turnout and messaging as the party prepares for the crucial 2026 midterm elections.

This coverage signals that even staunchly pro-Republican outlets are recognizing shifts in the political landscape, particularly among Latino voters and low-turnout districts, that could have significant implications for November.
