GOP Sen. Bill Cassidy Breaks With Trump, Calls Minneapolis ICE Shooting “Incredibly Disturbing”

Sen. Bill Cassidy (R-La.) called for a full federal and state investigation after a Border Patrol agent fatally shot 37-year-old Minneapolis resident Alex J. Pretti during a DHS operation on Saturday, calling the incident “incredibly disturbing.”

Cassidy said the credibility of ICE and DHS is at stake and that the public deserves the truth, breaking from President Donald Trump and other Republicans who defended the agents’ actions as self-defense.

DHS Secretary Kristi Noem said Pretti approached officers with a handgun, resisted attempts to disarm him, and was shot after agents feared for their lives. DHS says it is investigating the shooting.

Minnesota Democrats, including Sen. Amy Klobuchar, blamed the Trump administration and demanded ICE leave the state, while the White House and Vice President JD Vance accused Democrats and “far-left agitators” of fueling unrest.

The shooting has intensified political tensions as protests against ICE continue in Minneapolis.
