IPOB Stages ‘Trump Solidarity’ Rallies Across Southeast, Renewing Call for Nnamdi Kanu’s Release

Members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) organized coordinated “Trump Solidarity” rallies in parts of Abia, Anambra, and Ebonyi states this week, using the demonstrations to renew demands for the release of their detained leader, Nnamdi Kanu.

Witnesses said supporters gathered peacefully in major towns, carrying placards and chanting slogans calling for justice and what they described as respect for the rule of law. Organizers said the rallies were meant to draw international attention to Kanu’s continued detention and to frame their campaign as part of a broader global conversation about human rights and self-determination.

Participants referenced former U.S. President Donald Trump in speeches and banners, portraying him as a symbol of resistance to established political systems. IPOB supporters argued that global pressure, particularly from influential foreign figures, could help force a resolution to Kanu’s case.

Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of IPOB, has been in detention since 2021 and is facing terrorism-related charges brought by the Nigerian government. Authorities maintain that he is being lawfully prosecuted, while IPOB and its supporters insist his arrest and continued detention violate court orders and international legal standards.

Security presence was visible at several rally locations, but no major incidents were reported. Police and state authorities have not issued formal statements on the demonstrations as of the time of reporting.

The rallies reflect IPOB’s ongoing strategy of using public protests and international messaging to sustain pressure on the Nigerian government. While previous demonstrations have not resulted in Kanu’s release, supporters say they intend to continue mobilizing until their demands are met.
