Newly released emails reveal Goldman Sachs lawyer Kathryn Ruemmler received expensive gifts from Jeffrey Epstein, offering fresh insight into their previously undisclosed relationship.
A new batch of emails released Friday provides a closer look at the relationship between Kathryn Ruemmler, Goldman Sachs’ top lawyer, and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. The correspondence shows Epstein sending Ruemmler high-end gifts, including a Hermès handbag worth $9,350, and a Hermès Apple Watch, which she enthusiastically received.
Ruemmler, who served as White House counsel from 2011 to 2014 and later joined Goldman Sachs in 2020, appeared delighted by Epstein’s offerings. In 2018, she wrote after receiving a delivery: “So lovely and thoughtful! Thank you to Uncle Jeffrey!!!” Earlier exchanges show Ruemmler joking about birthday gifts and describing outfits accessorized by Epstein.
Goldman Sachs defended Ruemmler, noting that Epstein frequently offered unsolicited gifts to his contacts. A spokesperson said Ruemmler “had a professional association with Jeffrey Epstein when she was a lawyer in private practice… She regrets ever knowing him.” CEO David Solomon also emphasized her importance to the firm, calling her an “excellent lawyer” whose guidance the organization relies on daily.
Epstein, who pleaded guilty in 2008 to soliciting prostitution from a minor, was indicted in 2019 on federal sex-trafficking charges and died in jail while awaiting trial. The emails offer new insight into his network of relationships with prominent figures in law and finance.
The Justice Department announced on Friday it will release 3 million new Epstein-related files under the bipartisan Epstein Files Transparency Act. About 200,000 of the documents will remain partially redacted. These disclosures continue to illuminate Epstein’s interactions with high-profile associates and the scope of his influence.
