Keir Starmer Demands Mandelson and Prince Andrew Cooperate With U.S. Authorities After Epstein File Revelations

Newly released emails reveal former U.K. ambassador Peter Mandelson shared confidential government correspondence with Jeffrey Epstein and received $75,000 from him. Prime Minister Keir Starmer demands cooperation with U.S. authorities as scrutiny mounts.

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer is increasing pressure on former U.K. ambassador to the United States Peter Mandelson to cooperate with U.S. authorities after new emails revealed that Mandelson shared confidential government correspondence with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. The emails also show that Mandelson received $75,000 in wire transfers from Epstein in the early 2000s.

Starmer has ordered an urgent investigation into Mandelson’s actions and asked him to resign from the House of Lords, the upper chamber of the U.K. Parliament. Mandelson resigned from the Labour Party on Monday but remains a member of the Lords. He stated that he had no recollection or record of receiving the funds and said the payments “need investigating by me.” He also apologized to the women and girls affected by Epstein’s actions.

The released emails, dating from 2009 during the financial crisis, show Mandelson forwarding a memo from an aide to then-Prime Minister Gordon Brown. The memo advised selling £20 billion in government assets to reduce debt. Epstein, who received the email, asked, “what saleable assets?” and Mandelson replied, “Land, property I guess.” Nick Butler, the memo’s author, expressed disgust over the breach of trust, while Brown has called for an official inquiry.

Other emails reveal Mandelson sharing sensitive information about a €500 billion eurozone bailout in 2010 and coordinating financial matters during the eurozone crisis. Epstein also wired Mandelson three transfers of $25,000 in 2003 and 2004, and Mandelson’s partner, Reinaldo Avila da Silva, requested funds from Epstein in 2009 for an osteopathy course. Mandelson wrote to Epstein, “You are the only person who knows everything about me. Don’t go away,” showing the closeness of their relationship.

The DOJ files also shed light on former Prince Andrew and his ex-wife Sarah Ferguson. Andrew invited Epstein to Buckingham Palace in 2010 and received messages involving young women, while Ferguson wrote to Epstein about financial assistance and expressed personal admiration for him. The U.K. government has said Andrew should provide evidence to U.S. authorities. King Charles previously removed Andrew’s royal titles and is relocating him from Windsor Estate.

Starmer is facing criticism for appointing Mandelson as ambassador in 2025 despite his known connections to Epstein. The government stated that Mandelson did not disclose the full extent of his relationship with Epstein at the time. With more files being released by the Justice Department, scrutiny continues to mount on high-profile figures with ties to Epstein, and officials are being urged to cooperate fully with U.S. investigations.
