Kristi Noem doubles down on ICE overreach after Renee Good’s death, sending untrained agents into Minneapolis as public approval for immigration enforcement collapses.
Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem has become a liability for the Trump administration, as her aggressive ICE policies continue to backfire.
Over the weekend, Noem hit the media circuit insisting the fatal shooting of 37-year-old Minnesota mother Renee Good by an ICE agent was fully justified, and doubled down on her narrative that she has “been right since day one.” But critics say her words only mask incompetence and escalating chaos on the streets.
During Monday’s episode of MS NOW’s “Morning Joe,” hosts Mika Brzezinski and Joe Scarborough didn’t mince words. Brzezinski noted that Noem is deploying even more agents to Minneapolis, further destabilizing the city, while Scarborough called her press conference antics “lies about her lies” and warned that her actions are dragging down Trump’s approval numbers.
“You go back to her cowboy hat press conference, everything she said was a lie. Absolutely everything,” Scarborough said. “These agents are untrained, out of shape, and ill-equipped to do the job of professional law enforcement officers. Tragedy was inevitable—and it’s happening.”
According to a YouGov poll, public support for ICE’s tactics has cratered, dropping 30 points since Noem took control. Only 25% of Americans approve, while a majority, 54%, say ICE’s actions are “too extreme.”
Noem’s strategy isn’t just a PR disaster—it’s a humanitarian one, risking lives through poorly trained and overextended agents. Her insistence on doubling down after Renee Good’s death highlights the Trump administration’s dangerous prioritization of aggressive enforcement over accountability and public safety.
As Minneapolis reels from the consequences of her policies, Noem’s DHS stands as a stark example of how unchecked power and incompetence at the top can directly endanger communities.
