As former CNN anchor Don Lemon is charged over his coverage of a Minnesota church protest, Marjorie Taylor Greene says she “completely supports” his arrest, calling his actions activism rather than journalism.
Former Georgia congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene didn’t hold back in voicing her support for journalist Don Lemon’s recent arrest. Speaking on Real Time with Bill Maher Friday, Greene said Lemon’s actions at a Minneapolis church protest crossed the line from reporting into activism.
“I completely support his arrest,” Greene said. “He went into a church, disrupted their worship, and then later compared them to white supremacists. That’s not journalism, that’s activism.”
Greene added that Lemon’s visit to her office with the organizer of the so-called “Tesla Takedown” protest had prompted Capitol Police involvement. She emphasized that Christians should not be harassed while in church.
Fellow panelist Joe Scarborough countered that the incident might intimidate other journalists from covering ICE protests. Greene stuck to her stance, saying, “Well, I think it’s bullsh*t to disrupt church.”
Lemon was released on a no-cash bond Friday after his Thursday arrest. In a statement outside the Los Angeles courthouse, he defended his work:
“I have spent my entire career covering the news. I will not stop now. There is no more important time than right now for a free and independent media that shines a light on the truth and holds those in power accountable.”
The case has drawn national attention, raising questions about press freedom, civil rights, and the limits of activism in places of worship.
