Former D.C. Metropolitan Police officer Michael Fanone didn’t hold back after attending a congressional hearing featuring former special counsel Jack Smith, calling it a “f—ing kangaroo court” and a total waste of time.
Fanone said he showed up to support Smith, whom he described as a man of integrity simply doing his job. But beyond that, he said the hearing offered nothing new and only confirmed his belief that Congress is broken, regardless of which party is in charge. He also labeled the Trump administration a “disgrace.”
Asked about President Trump calling Smith “deranged” on Truth Social, Fanone flipped the accusation back at Trump, saying the president is incapable of empathy and projecting his own behavior onto others.
Tensions boiled over during a break when Fanone got into a heated confrontation with conservative activist Ivan Raiklin, whom Fanone accused of threatening his family. Capitol Police officers stepped in, and Raiklin later left the room under unclear circumstances.
Fanone also appeared to tell Rep. Troy Nehls (R-Texas) to “go f— yourself” after Nehls blamed Capitol Police leadership—not Trump—for the Jan. 6 attack.
During the hearing, Smith brushed off Trump’s attacks, saying he followed the law and evidence, which led to proof Trump committed serious crimes. Smith previously led investigations into Trump’s efforts to overturn the 2020 election and his handling of classified documents—cases that were dropped after Trump returned to the White House.
