A mysterious Tehran–Moscow flight involving a government aircraft sparks speculation about Iran’s leadership, with rumors pointing to President Pezeshkian or senior adviser Ali Larijani.
A quiet evening flight from Tehran to Moscow has triggered a wave of speculation across social media, as an Iranian government-linked aircraft landed in Russia with no official explanation from either side.
According to flight-tracking data cited by the Daily Express, an Airbus A321 operated by Meraj Airlines—using the callsign IRAN07—departed Tehran on Tuesday night and touched down at Moscow’s Vnukovo Airport after a 3 hour, 38 minute trip. The jet, registered EP-IPD, is known for transporting Iran’s senior officials on sensitive or undisclosed missions.
The aircraft’s sudden appearance in Moscow quickly became the most-tracked plane on FlightRadar24, drawing tens of thousands of viewers and triggering a frenzy of guesses about who might be onboard.
Online chatter, particularly in Russian and pro-Kremlin Telegram channels, suggested—without evidence—that President Masoud Pezeshkian may have traveled to Russia for an unannounced visit. With no comment from Iranian state media, other accounts floated a different possibility: Ali Larijani, a powerful adviser to Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and longtime political heavyweight.
Larijani has recently blamed Iran’s internal unrest on foreign-backed “quasi-terrorist” groups, adding fuel to speculation that high-level security discussions could be underway.
What added to the intrigue?
- The plane landed at Vnukovo, a hub frequently used for foreign government officials and VIP delegations.
- Russian outlet Mash, known for ties to security services, shared screenshots of the aircraft’s route.
- Some reports noted a secondary callsign, RSJ7136, linked to a Russian business aviation operator.
The timing also coincides with online claims—again unverified—about potential U.S. targeted strikes on Iranian security figures or sites, raising questions about whether urgent diplomatic or strategic talks could be behind the trip.
For now, no official visit has been announced, and both Tehran and Moscow remain silent. Until clarity emerges, the mystery flight is continuing to fuel rumors at an already tense moment for Iran’s leadership.
