Police: Atlanta Rapper Shot During Robbery Outside Miami Store; Several Suspects Arrested, Shooter Still Wanted

Police say an Atlanta rapper is recovering in the hospital after being shot during an armed robbery over the weekend in Miami’s Design District.

According to a report from WSB-TV, the victim — who performs under the stage name Lil Deko — was shopping Saturday afternoon at a Supreme clothing store when he was confronted by several people he reportedly knew from Atlanta.

Investigators said an argument started inside the store before a suspect walked behind the rapper and pulled a gold chain valued at about $22,000 from his neck. Police identified that suspect as 25-year-old Jamar McKay.

Authorities said Lil Deko ran after McKay, and once outside, another unidentified person approached and shot him once in the stomach.

A witness recorded video of paramedics placing the victim into an ambulance. He was taken to a nearby hospital, where police say he remains under treatment but is expected to recover.

Court documents reviewed by reporters indicate the individuals involved have had prior conflicts, and detectives are looking into whether an ongoing dispute may have played a role.

Police later located several suspects inside a nearby home with assistance from the Miami SWAT team.
McKay was taken into custody, along with 20-year-old Omarion Phillips and 21-year-old Kevieon Smith, authorities said.

According to police:

  • McKay is charged with armed robbery with a firearm or deadly weapon and resisting an officer without violence.
  • Phillips and Smith are each charged with accessory after the fact.
  • Smith also faces an additional charge of possession of a firearm or ammunition by a convicted felon.

Officers said they also recovered the stolen gold chain during the search.

The person believed to have fired the shot has not yet been identified, and investigators say the case remains active.
