Rep. Jasmine Crockett Criticizes Supreme Court Over Texas Redistricting Ruling

Rep. Jasmine Crockett, D-Texas, sharply criticized the U.S. Supreme Court after it allowed Texas’ newly redrawn congressional districts to remain in place ahead of upcoming elections.

In a video posted to her YouTube channel, Crockett argued that the decision is part of broader efforts by Republicans, including former President Donald Trump, to influence election outcomes through redistricting.

She accused GOP leaders of trying to “rig the system,” and praised states that have challenged similar measures, while using explicit language to condemn the Court’s ruling.

The Supreme Court issued an order in December permitting the maps approved by Gov. Greg Abbott to stand. The new districts are expected to create up to five additional Republican-held seats in the U.S. House.

The redistricting also shifts Crockett out of her current district — a change that likely influenced her decision to launch a Senate campaign shortly after the ruling.

Elsewhere, California Gov. Gavin Newsom has advanced a ballot measure aimed at adding Democratic-leaning districts, while Indiana lawmakers declined to advance a proposal that would have increased GOP representation.

Crockett also renewed calls for Supreme Court reform, pointing to her prior work on proposals that include term limits and expanding the Court. She argued that some seats were “illegitimately” obtained and said strengthening checks and balances is essential to protecting democracy.
