Sean “Diddy” Combs Receives Early Release Date Amid Sentence Appeal

The Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP) has updated the projected release date for Sean “Diddy” Combs, moving it up to April 25, 2028. This change comes as the music mogul continues to fight his 50-month (roughly four-year) sentence for prostitution-related offenses.

Shifting Release Dates

Combs’ time behind bars has been marked by several fluctuations in his projected release timeline:

  • Original Date: Following his sentencing in late 2025, his release was initially set for May 8, 2028.
  • The Extension: In November 2025, his date was pushed back to June 4, 2028, following allegations of prison rule violations at FCI Fort Dix, including reportedly consuming “homemade alcohol” and making unauthorized three-way phone calls.
  • The Reduction: The current move to April 25, 2028, shaves over five weeks off his previous date. This is largely attributed to his enrollment in the Residential Drug Abuse Program (RDAP), which can reduce an inmate’s sentence by up to one year upon successful completion.

The Status of His Appeal

While his release date has moved, Combs’ legal team is pushing for a much earlier exit through an expedited appeal process:

  • The Argument: His lawyers contend that the trial judge acted as a “thirteenth juror” by relying on conduct related to charges of which Combs was acquitted (such as racketeering and sex trafficking) to impose a harsher sentence.
  • Key Hearing: Oral arguments for the appeal are scheduled for April 9, 2026. His team is seeking an immediate reversal of the conviction or a significantly reduced sentence.
  • Pardon Efforts: Reports also indicate that Combs’ representatives have approached the White House regarding a potential pardon or commutation, though no official action has been taken by the administration.

Combs remains incarcerated at the low-security federal facility in New Jersey, where he reportedly spends his time working in the chapel library.
