A devastating mass shooting occurred in downtown Austin, Texas, early Sunday morning, March 1, 2026, leaving three people dead and at least 14 others injured.
- The Incident: Gunfire erupted around 1:59 a.m. at Buford’s Backyard Beer Garden, a popular venue in the West Sixth Street entertainment district, just as the bar was preparing to close.
- Casualties: * Three people were killed, including the suspected gunman.
- 14 victims were hospitalized, with at least three reported to be in critical condition.
- Police Response: Officers who were already patrolling the busy district arrived at the scene within 57 seconds. Three officers confronted a male suspect armed with a long rifle and a handgun, fatally shooting him during an exchange of gunfire.
