Former President Donald Trump commented Wednesday on an incident in Minneapolis involving federal immigration officers and a woman who was later pronounced dead, offering his perspective while local officials emphasized that the investigation is ongoing.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump said he had viewed video footage circulating online and described the encounter as “a horrible thing to watch.” He characterized one woman heard yelling in the video as “a professional agitator” and suggested the driver was “disorderly” and “obstructing,” adding that the officer appeared to act in self-defense. Trump’s comments differed from the initial public briefing by Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara.
O’Hara, speaking earlier at a press conference, said officers arrived to find a woman with a gunshot wound. Life-saving measures were conducted at the scene before she was transported to Hennepin County Medical Center, where she was later pronounced dead.
According to O’Hara, preliminary information indicated the woman had been inside a vehicle that was blocking the roadway. A federal law enforcement officer approached on foot before the vehicle began to move. At least two shots were reported, and the vehicle subsequently crashed.
Minneapolis police said they secured the scene and worked to preserve available evidence. Authorities noted that details remain subject to further review, and formal findings will depend on the results of ongoing investigative processes.
No further information identifying those involved or determining fault has been officially released at this time. Officials urged the public to allow investigators to complete their work before drawing conclusions.
