Trump Criticizes Minnesota Leaders as ICE Tensions Rise

President Trump escalates verbal attacks on Minnesota leaders as the state reels from two fatal shootings by federal agents, complicating efforts to de-escalate tensions.

President Donald Trump has again targeted Minnesota leaders after two people were killed by federal agents in the state.

On Truth Social, Trump warned Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey that he was “PLAYING WITH FIRE!” after Frey said the city does not enforce federal immigration law. Frey responded, saying police should protect people, not “hunt down a working dad.”

Trump also focused on Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) after a man sprayed her with an unknown substance at a town hall. He suggested, without evidence, that the attack might have been staged.

These incidents came after Alex Pretti was shot and killed by federal agents in Minneapolis, sparking national outrage.

After the backlash, the White House has made some changes:

  • Border Patrol chief Greg Bovino and some agents are leaving Minnesota.
  • Border czar Tom Homan is taking over operations, likely using less aggressive enforcement tactics.

Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz (D) said he is “skeptically optimistic” but noted little progress so far. He also criticized DHS Secretary Kristi Noem, saying she should avoid provocative actions.

Trump’s attacks could make tensions worse in Minnesota. With federal agents still in the state, people are watching closely to see if the situation can calm down before more violence happens.
