Trump Turns on Kristi Noem, Sends Border Czar Tom Homan to “Clean Up” Minneapolis Immigration Chaos

Kristi Noem is reportedly on the wrong side of Donald Trump’s anger after another deadly incident involving federal immigration agents in Minneapolis — and now the president is turning to her longtime rival, Border Czar Tom Homan, to take control of the situation.

The backlash follows the fatal shooting of 37-year-old nurse Alex Pretti, an American citizen, during a federal immigration operation in Minneapolis over the weekend. The killing sparked outrage across the political spectrum, with Democratic leaders condemning the crackdown and even Republican lawmakers warning the situation has spiraled out of control.

According to multiple reports, Trump is privately furious over how Noem’s Department of Homeland Security handled both the operation and the public messaging around the shooting. Instead of backing her, the president appears to be placing his trust in Homan — one of his most loyal immigration hardliners and a longtime internal rival to Noem.

“I am sending Tom Homan to Minnesota tonight,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “He has not been involved in that area, but knows and likes many of the people there. Tom is tough but fair, and will report directly to me.”

The move is widely seen as a direct snub to Noem and a sign that Trump believes her leadership in Minneapolis has failed.

Trump’s post didn’t stop there. He also claimed a “major investigation” is underway into alleged welfare fraud in Minnesota, blaming it in part for unrest in the streets, and took a direct swipe at Rep. Ilhan Omar, claiming federal authorities are examining her finances.

Behind the scenes, the power struggle inside Trump’s immigration team is becoming more visible. Corey Lewandowski — a longtime Trump ally and rumored romantic partner of Noem — has accused Homan of leaking information to the press and has pushed to remove officials aligned with him.

But the president’s latest move makes one thing clear: Homan now has Trump’s backing.

By sending him to Minnesota to “clean up” the situation, Trump is signaling a major internal shift — and a growing loss of confidence in Kristi Noem’s handling of the immigration crackdown.
