Ukraine Launches Drone Strikes on Russian Oil and Military Sites

Ukraine carried out a series of drone attacks overnight on Jan. 22 targeting Russian oil and weapons facilities, according to the General Staff of Ukraine’s Armed Forces.

Key targets included Russia’s Tamanneftegaz oil terminal in Krasnodar Krai, several radar stations in Russian-occupied Crimea, a drone storage facility in Kherson Oblast, and military posts in Donetsk Oblast. The Tamanneftegaz terminal, one of the largest in the Black Sea region, handles crude oil, petroleum products, and liquefied hydrocarbon gases. Ukrainian forces reported a direct hit, causing explosions and a fire.

Krasnodar Krai Governor Veniamin Kondratiev confirmed on Telegram that four tanks containing petroleum products caught fire, two workers died, and several others were injured. This follows a previous strike on the terminal on Dec. 22, 2025, which damaged equipment and port infrastructure.

Other Ukrainian strikes targeted military sites in Russian-occupied regions:

  • Crimea: radar stations 59N6-E “Protivnik-GE,” 55Zh6 Nebo-U, and 55Zh6M Nebo-M.
  • Kherson Oblast: a drone storage facility in Novohryhorivka.
  • Donetsk Oblast: command and observation post of the 76th Airborne Brigade in Selydove, personnel of the 74th Motorized Brigade, and an ammunition depot of the 101st separate logistics brigade in Debaltseve.

The full extent of the damage is still being assessed, and independent verification of these claims is not yet available.

Throughout 2025 and into 2026, Ukraine has increasingly relied on domestically developed drones to strike oil facilities and military targets inside Russia and Russian-occupied territories, signaling a major escalation in its drone warfare capabilities.
