The USS Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier has entered CENTCOM waters in the Indian Ocean as tensions with Iran escalate, U.S. officials confirmed. The move comes amid reports that Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has gone underground, signaling possible military preparations.
Experts warn Iran’s fleet of unmanned drones poses a serious asymmetric threat to U.S. naval assets. Cameron Chell, CEO of Draganfly, told Fox News that Iran could launch large numbers of low-cost drones in saturation attacks, potentially overwhelming traditional ship defenses.
While the Lincoln and its strike group are not yet prepared for offensive strikes, U.S. forces are bolstering their presence in the region, deploying F-15 fighter jets and C-17 cargo planes carrying heavy equipment.
“These drones give Iran a very credible way to threaten surface vessels,” Chell said, emphasizing the unique danger posed by one-way strike drones designed to detonate on impact.
The deployment signals Washington’s intent to maintain a strong military posture in response to Iran’s growing regional capabilities, even as uncertainty remains over the carrier group’s ability to counter coordinated drone attacks.
