White House Scrambles After Minneapolis Shooting: Bovino Out, Homan In

Tensions are running high in the Trump White House following the federal agent killing of ICU nurse Alex Pretti in Minneapolis. Controversial border chief Greg Bovino is being replaced by seasoned immigration official Tom Homan, who will report directly to Trump, signaling a potential shift in the administration’s approach to federal operations in the Twin Cities.

Bovino, slammed by both Democrats and GOP lawmakers for his unapologetic response to Pretti’s death, will return to El Centro, California. Meanwhile, DHS Secretary Kristi Noem faces a demotion after her claims that Pretti was a “domestic terrorist” and “brandished a weapon” were widely disputed. Noem will refocus on southern border duties, losing authority over interior immigration.

Trump reportedly discussed recalling federal agents from Minneapolis with Governor Tim Walz and has hinted the move could happen “at some point,” while also acknowledging the agents’ work. However, fallout continues: Republican lawmakers, including Ted Cruz and John Curtis, have criticized the administration for rhetoric and rushed statements, urging a measured, transparent response.

The shake-up marks a clear attempt by the White House to regain control amid mounting political and public pressure.
