Will Smith narrowly escaped death while filming his Disney+ series Pole to Pole With Will Smith, recounting the terrifying dive on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. Minutes into a scuba dive under thick Arctic ice, Smith heard urgent warnings to abort. As he surfaced, he struck solid ice and accidentally removed his oxygen mask, sparking a life-or-death struggle.
“I was like, ‘If I get out of here, I’m only going to do Black stuff from here on out,’” Smith recalled, reflecting on the harrowing moment. He was eventually pulled to safety via his tether and experienced what he called “the most spiritual moment.”
